Restore dell laptop to factory settings without password

The main challenge here is backing up your files. If your files are already backed up then go skip down to the steps below. If you forgot the password you can boot with a live CD like Kali linux or Hirens boot cd which will give you access to the hard drive and can be able to save your files.

Another option would be to connect your hard drive from the laptop to a different computer and then copying the files. This requires a bit of hardware knowledge to properly remove and  connect the hard drive. Would not recommend it if you do not have much hardware experience

If you do not need to save any files or you have already done that follow the following steps, also note they will be slight variations in windows 8, windows 8.1 and windows 10.

  1. Connect your laptop to the charger.
  2. Shutdown your dell laptop.
  3. Turn it on.
  4. Press and hold CTL + F8 key until advanced settings appear.
  5. Select advanced settings.
  6. Troubleshoot.
  7. Reset computer.

If you are failing on step three just turn your computer off 3 times when you see the windows logo. On the third time it will automatically go to automatic repair mode. Then you can be able to continue with the steps above.

You may be prompted whether to just remove files or full reset. The latter will take a bit longer as its thorough and will format the hard drive.

Note this may take a while so keep your laptop plugged in.
