Dell Inc. has been quiet a sensation with Michael Dell, MSD Partners and Silver Lake’s 67 billion dollar acquisition of EMC. It all began in a high school dorm room with Michael Dell building and selling PCs, a few years later it turns into a global corporation at the forefront of tech innovation and now provides a wide range of computing solutions. In its three decades of operation the Texas Headquartered Company has acquired a number of technology companies Here is a list of some of the companies acquired by Dell Inc :

ConvergeNet Technologies,Inc.

Founded by Shari Nolan in 1997 the data storage company was acquired by Dell in 1999 for about 340 million dollars. This was part of Dell’s push into the growing data storage market, making Dell a competitor to the market leaders like EMC.

NetSage

Software company founded in 1996, Develops technologies for customer support including socially intelligent virtual employees to teach and train people in using various softwares. Acquired by Dell in 1999

Perot Systems

I.T Services provider founded by investors led by Ross Perot in June 1, 1988, offering technology services in banking, insurance, healthcare and other businesses. Acquired by Dell for 3.9 Billion dollars in 2009, it increased Dell’s I.T services and solutions.

Plural

Formerly known as Micro Modelling Associates, Inc, an I.T services provider. Providing expertise in making, managing and improving large computer systems.
Is now part of Dell since May 31, 2002.

ACS

UK based company specializing in application management and deployment. It also consults on technology infrastructures of high profile companies. Acquired in November 2006.

Alienware

Computer hardware company which makes high end computers with a main focus on gaming computers. Alienware was founded in 1996 by Nelson Gonzalez and Alex Aguila, it was bought by Dell on March 22, 2006

ASAP Software, Inc

Provides I.T solutions for business and organizations. With award winning eSMART software for License Management Innovation, ASAP has a lot to offer including software management, system management solutions e-commerce services and other services The company was bought by Dell in November 2007

Everdream

Acquired on a deal with some undisclosed terms, Everdream offers a variety of services which include remote and local PC management software. They offer patch tools, antivirus, data protection by encryption and back up services with their Uptime Services Suite. Founded in1998 and acquired by Dell Inc., on the 15th of November 2007.

SilverBack Technologies

a developer of remote IT monitoring and management services.

EqualLogic

A data storage management system which provides automation solutions for data storage sytems. Also improves business utilisation of resources from servers, hard drives, processes utilising unused resources. Their systems use iSCSI (Internet Small Computer System Interface) via either Gigabit Ethernet or 10 Gigabit Ethernet controllers. Founded in 2001 by Peter Hayden, Paula Long and Paul Koning they were acquired by Dell on the 28 January 2008.

MessageOne

Email management system, providing companies and large organizations with email solution. Mitigating email associated risks improvement and enabling secure rapid communication. It also provide archiving, encrypting, enterprise alerts and more solutions. Founded in 1998 by Adam Dell brother to Dell Inc founder Michael Dell. Dell acquired MessageOne on April 25, 2008

The Networked Storage Company

Company name describes the core of the business, they also provide customers with IT solutions for better and efficient storage. Bought by Dell on February 21, 2008.

Boomi

Cloud data integration solutions. Harnessing data from multiple different sources with an easy to use web interface, eliminating the need for software or any complex coding. Boomi is able to help users get informed decisions from the outputs of graphic web console. Is now Dell owned since November 2, 2010.

Exanet

Israel company founded in 2000 by Giora Yaron and Yossi Ben-Shoshan. Providing file-level computer data storage server hooked to a server network which provide data access to many clients. Their software solutions are independent of hardware and supports Windows Mac and Linux. Acquired February 2010.

KACE Networks

Rob Meinhardt and Marty Kacin founded the company in February 2003. It
Specialises in custom hardware devices with integrated software for accomplishing specific tasks. Their products include software inventory like Kbox appliances and mobile device management. These products cater for operating systems deployment, helpdesk-application, patching or updating systems, remote systems control. February 11, 2010 it was bought by Dell Inc.
Ocarina Networks
Founded by Bungalore born Murli Thirumale in 2006, offers data compression and duplication removal services through its advanced products. It was purchased by Dell in July 2010.

Scalent Systems

Founded in 2003 by Gadi Maier, Benjamin Linder. Provides data centre technologies with the main product being the virtual operating environment software which create adaptable servers.They seamless migrate physical servers to virtual servers and create automation for both virtual and Physical servers. As of July 30, 2010 its now owned by Dell.

Compellent Technologies, Inc

Compellent Technologies, another data storage company acquired by Dell. Its services included Thin Provisioning, system snapshot and continuous snapshots, transfer of data across different devices, yremote storage replication and more.
Founded by Larry Aszmann, John Guider, and Phil Soran in 2002 and bought in December 13, 2010.

Force10 Networks

Previously known as nCore Networks the company was founded by PK Dubey, Naresh Nigam and Som Sikdar in 1999. Specialising in Ethernet network switches categorized into four types namely C series, E Series, S series and the Z Series. It also provides data centre networks, large organizations and telecommunications companies with networking solutions. Acquired by Dell in 2011.

InSite One

Provides organizations in health care with easy storage of medical data on cloud based systems. By digitising medical records into securely stored electronic documents the company is able to reduce the cost and simplify the technology used. It also provides organizations with billions of medical data in many formats, speeding up the workflow process and enabling it to reach more customers. Founded in 1999 bought by Dell in December 2012.

RNA Networks

Is a memory virtualization company. It sells MVX( Memory Virtualization Acceleration software) which speeds up applications by creating a virtual memory pool and it also increases read and write speed 20+ times more than SATA drives. The company was founded in 2006 by Jason Gross and Ranjit Pandit and bought by Dell on June 21, 2011.

SecureWorks

Security service company protecting customers, networks and large organizations including Fortune 100 companies from virus, botnets, data breaches and related cyber-attacks. It was founded in 1998 by Michael Pearson and Joan Wilbanks, Dell acquired it on 4 January 2011.

AppAssure Software

Recently named Rapid Recovery, the main product, the software reliably offers backup, replication and recovery solutions. It was founded in 2006 by Najaf Husain, now owned by Dell since April 2012. It works on virtual, physical and cloud platforms and has support for VMware and Microsoft applications.

Clerity Solutions

A leader in system re-hosting. They provide hardware and software infrastructure and expertise for the migration of legacy system. They design and come up with solutions for different sytems making them unique.

CREDANTTechnologies

Data Protection Company with a range of products to protect intranet, and cloud based storage service data. They also provide easy to use self-encrypting drives which encrypts data on the fly. It was founded by Bob Heard, Chris Burchett and Andrew Kahl in 2001 and was bought by Dell on 18 December 2012

Gale Technologies

Provides infrastructure for software automation services, helping companies automate its computing, storage and network resources. Also provides management of big data centres.

Make Technologies

Help large organizations modernize their old and expensive computer system and make the software up to standard with modern coding standards. Bought by Dell in 2012.

Quest Software

Offers packaged and customs software with databases and operating system and other technology infrastructure. It also provide windows tool to manage windows systems and has cloud automation, virtualization and backup and restore services. Acquired by Dell in September 2012.

SonicWall

Internet Solutions company, provider of Virtual Private Net, Hardware firewall, web and email security, secure remote connection and more. Founded by brothers Sreekanth and Sudhakar Ravi.

Wyse Technology

Provides Thin Client computing and is the world leader in the industry. Founded in 1981 by Garwing Wu and bought by Dell in 2012.
Enstratius formerly enStratus Networks, is a provider of tools for managing cloud infrastructure for businesses. Its cloud management support a lot of public and private clouds include Amazon Web Services. Established in 2008 by David Bagley and George Reese and acquired by Dell on 6 May 2013.

Statsoft

An all-round data analysis too boasting an extensive collection of data software tools, the STATISTA suite. Services include data analysis, management, visualization, and mining. Established in 1984 and bought by dell on March 24, 2014.

EMC

EMC is the largest of all Dell acquisitions and possible in the technology sector in general. One of the largest global computer data storage corporation. Richard Egan and Roger Marino founded the corporation in 1979. Services and products include data storage, archiving, backup, content management, virtualizations (VMware), cloud computing, data computing, customer support and more.

This on is an important acquisition. It places Dell as a major competitor when it comes to data and storage. The many companies which fall under EMC also become great assets under the Dell Technologies brand
